Rubber Plants

Rubber plants (Ficus elastica) are popular houseplants known for their large, glossy, dark green leaves. These plants are native to Southeast Asia and belong to the fig family, Moraceae. They can grow quite tall, reaching up to 50 feet in their natural habitat, but when kept as indoor plants, they typically range from 2 to 10 feet in height.

Description

Rubber plants are relatively low-maintenance and thrive in bright, indirect light. They can tolerate lower light conditions, but this may slow their growth and cause the leaves to lose some of their vibrant color. The leaves of the rubber plant are thick and leathery, with a characteristic oval shape and a prominent midrib. New growth often emerges with a reddish hue before maturing to deep green.
